AUCTIONS
Canfield Lions Club is hosting an Eyes for Olivia Quarter Auction on Friday at the Memorial Building, 785 E. State St. in Salem. Doors open at 6 p.m., auction begins at 7. The cost is $5 per person, adults only. Admission includes one bidding paddle. All proceeds will benefit Curing Retinal Blindness Foundation, a non-profit group made of families of children diagnosed with the disease. Take your own quarters.
Mill Creek Chapter of ABWA will host its annual basket auction Sunday at the Ursuline Center, 4280 Shields Road, Canfield. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. and the auction will begin at 3. Admission is $5, and includes entry for door prize raffles, 25 tickets for auction items, and a refreshment. Hot dogs, beverages and cookies will be for sale. There will be more than 100 auction items, a split-the-pot and a hat raffle. Profits will go to the education fund for scholarships and for members to attend leadership conferences.
St. Joseph Church, 4545 New Road, Austintown, will sponsor its third quarter auction Friday. The event is for adults (21 and older). Doors open at 6 p.m. and the auction begins at 7. Tickets are $10 and include admission and a bidding paddle. There also will be 50-50 and lottery tree raffles. Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door. BINGO AND CARDS
Holy Apostles Parish at St. Stephen of Hungary Church, 854 Wilson Ave., Youngstown, will be the location of a spring fling bingo and card party at 2 p.m. May 7 in the church social hall. It is sponsored by the Altar and Rosary Society. Donations are $5 and include lunch and door prizes. Tickets will be available at the door. BOOK SALES
Friends of the Community Library of the Shenango Valley are hosting a used book sale in the basement of the library at 11 N. Sharpsville Ave., Sharon, Pa., on May 3 from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., May 4 from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and May 5 and 6 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A selection of current and classic fiction, nonfiction and children’s books will be available as well as a variety of audiovisual materials, puzzles and reference items. Lepper Library, 303 E. Lincoln Way, Lisbon, will have a book sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 5 and 6. There will be adult, teen and children’s books, audios and movies. New Wilmington Kiwanis Club will host its annual and final used book sale from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the former Jameson New Wilmington Health Center on South Market Street, New Wilmington, Pa., across from Rite Aid. Paperbacks will be 50 cents, hardbacks are $1, plus a special priced coffee table section. Deals will be available on the final day of the sale, and group donations will be available for pickup May 1. Tables and book shelves also are for sale, with pickup May 4. Trumbull County Travel Club next scheduled day outing will be May 23 to Jamestown, NY, to visit Lucille Ball’s hometown. Lunch is included and will be at the Tropicana, Ricky’s night club. In September, the club will do a three-day visit the Ark in Kentucky. The Ark took six years to complete by Amish craftsmen and was modeled after specifications found in the Bible. In November, a trip is planned to Branson for seven days. A stop in St. Louis will be made on the trip home. Flyers are available, seating is limited. The Trumbull County Travel Club is open to any person over the age of 21. There is no membership fee. The club meets twice a year for planning and discussion.
