SOFTBALL

Poland 16, Peebles 4

Payton Slanina had four hits and teammates Sarah Boccieri, Audrey Schweers and Amanda Wire each had three as the Bulldogs won easily in a girls softball showcase at Akron’s Firestone Park. Slanina hit a triple and Wire had three RBIs for Poland (8-7). The Bulldogs got two hits each from Harley Kish, Devin Echle and Ashley Wire. Winning pitcher Monica Kurjan struck out seven and scattered four hits.

Poland 7, Mathews 4

Ashley Wire had three hits and teammates Brooke Bobbey, Amanda Wire and Ally Nittoli each had two as the Bulldogs beat the Mustangs at Akron’s Firestone Park. Bobbey scattered six hits and allowed only one earned run. Makenzie Grahm had two hits for Mathews.

Champion 3, Norton 0

Allison Smith (5-0) fired a two-hitter and struck out 12 as the unbeaten Golden Flashes blanked Norton. Smith had two hits, including a double, and Molly Williams drove in two runs in Champion’s three-run fifth inning. Kaitlyn Cowx had both hits for Norton.

Champion 15, Brunswick 6

The Golden Flashes used a 10-run first inning to get the drop on Brunswick and stay perfect. Megan Turner had four hits, Molly Williams had three and McKenzie Zigmont and Jackie Mulvain each had two for Champion. Turner doubled, tripled and drove in four runs. Mulvain and Alayna Fell also had doubles. Zigmont and Hannah Gresch each had two RBIs. Zigmont (8-0) scattered eight hits for the win. Kat Ferretti had four hits and Delani Sopko had two for Brunswick.

Hubbard 8, North Olmstead 6

The Eagles’ Annie Zagorec broke up a tie game with a two-run home run in the six inning and Hubbard held on to win at Akron’s Firestone Park. Addy Jarvis got the win for the Eagles. She worked the last four innings, allowing just two hits and striking out 10. Morgan Kist had three hits and two RBIs for Hubbard. Jarvis and Mikayla Smith each added two hits and Hannah Kist doubled and walked twice.

Chardon NDCL 18, Hubbard 4

Mikayla Smith singled twice and Emma Wukelich drove in two runs with a double for the Eagles, but Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin dominated, starting with an eight-run first inning at Akron’s Firestone Park. Addy Jarvis and Athena Smith each had a double for Hubbard. Morgan Maestle homered and drove in five runs for NDCL.
