Youngstown Section of the National Council of Negro Women will host its annual Women of Distinction luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 27 at Holiday Inn, 7410 South Ave.

The luncheon will honor African-American women who demonstrate the values of Mary McLeod Bethune, founder of NCNW, and Dorothy I. Height, former NCNW president, in serving their community.

The Bethune-Height award will be given to 12 women, and their stories have been published by Lit Youngstown in the book “Phenomenal Women: Twelve Youngstown Stories.”

The recipients are Estella Bender, Frances Carter, Pamela Collins, Joyce Davidson, Carol Donnelly, June Ewing, Audrey Gillian, Ollie McCurdy, Josephine North, Louise Payne, Mildred Payne and Bobbe Reynolds.

The Rev. Kenny Simon, pastor of New Bethel Baptist Church in Youngstown, will attend as a special guest.

Luncheon committee members are Antoinette Hunter, Angela Pickett, Darla Dunlap, Kristy Gore, Sandy Britt, Karen Jackson-Cook, Edna Douglas and Evelyn Ross.

Mary McLeod Bethune founded the organizaton in 1935, and the Youngstown Section was chartered in 1976.
