UMC vice president
Jeffrey R. Breese has been named vice president for academic affairs and dean at the University of Mount Union in Alliance, President Dick Merriman has announced. The appointment comes as the result of a national search carried out in partnership with AGB Search of Washington, DC.
Breese, who currently serves as the provost and vice president of academic affairs at Dominican University in River Forest, Ill., will assume his new duties at Mount Union in early July.
A native of Ohio, Breese graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Youngstown State University. He then went on to earn a master’s degree in sociology from Ohio University and his Ph.D in sociology the University of Akron. His core areas of focus within the discipline are social psychology, race and ethnicity and applied sociology.
Interpreter award
Mill Creek MetroParks Naturalist Marilyn Williams has been awarded the Sandy McBeath Outstanding Part-Time/Seasonal Interpreter Award by the National Association for Interpretation Great Lakes Region.
The award recognizes outstanding interpreters in Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Ontario. The award is given to individuals who “exceed in interpretation and program development, and show leadership qualities,” according to a news release.
Williams started at the MetroParks in 2012. She previously worked as an ecotour guide in Florida.
She has helped develop and lead MetroParks programs.
Best of Show winner
Whitney Miller, a senior graphic and interactive design major at Youngstown State University, took home Student Best of Show honors at the Pittsburgh AIG Annual Design Competition and Exhibition.
Miller’s graphic design portfolio, titled “Self Promotion,” was selected from a field of 270 professional and student print and interactive pieces submitted for judging. Judges chose 60 professional and 30 student pieces for exhibition in this year’s show.
The award was presented at Spirit Hall in Lawrenceville, Pa., the opening day of the exhibition. Miller’s title came with a $500 prize from an anonymous donor.
