POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard, Liberty and Hubbard:

GIRARD

April 16

Arrest: Authorities approached someone who was apparently hitchhiking along U.S. Route 422 before charging Timothy Finnigan, 50, with falsification after saying he had provided a false Social Security number and date of birth. Finnigan, of Sherwood Drive Northeast, Warren, also was wanted on a felony warrant from Summit County charging him with escape.

Recovered property: Youngstown police found a 2014 Kia Sorrento that an East Wilson Avenue woman had reported stolen.

Theft: A bag containing Nintendo and Wii games, and a key, were stolen from a vehicle in the 500 block of Forsythe Avenue.

Assault: Officers answered a disturbance call in the 200 block of East Main Street, where two men each reported having been assaulted by the other during an altercation.

April 17

Identity fraud: A Hazel Street woman told police she received an outstanding bill from 2012 for about $1,200 from Dominion East Ohio Gas Co. that was for a Youngstown address.

Theft: A Lincoln Avenue man noticed someone had ransacked his car before he discovered three credit cards and loose change missing.

Theft: A backpack and a pair of tennis shoes were among items that were removed from a vehicle on North Highland Avenue.

Criminal mischief: An East Liberty Street woman saw that her car’s passenger-side tires had been slashed.

April 18

Trespassing: While responding to a suspicious vehicle on property in the 1100 block of North State Street, police issued summonses to Alyssa M. Meckulch, 21, and Sherry R. Meckulch, 31, both of Church Hill Road; and Angela M. Viglio, 36, of Townsend Avenue, charging the three Girard women with criminal trespassing. They were in an area that was off limits, a report said.

Harassment: A Church Hill Road man said his former girlfriend has made and sent him several weeks’ worth of calls and text messages that were annoying in nature.

Possible burglary: A woman in the 200 block of East Main Street reported having thought someone was inside her residence, though police reported finding the home to be secure and concluded it was likely no one had entered.

LIBERTY

April 14

Arrest: Police at the Mahoning County jail took custody of Eric L. Moore, 22, of East Lucius Avenue, Youngstown. He was wanted on township warrants charging him with being a convicted felon with a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon and obstructing official business.

Burglary: To a vacant home in the 3100 block of Goleta Avenue, from which copper piping was missing and a natural-gas leak was discovered.

Drugs: After pulling her over on Belmont Avenue, officers charged Brittany M. Mountain, 35, with possession of heroin, drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia after alleging Mountain, of North Lipkey Road, North Jackson, admitted having $20 worth of heroin. In addition, Mountain, who also was wanted on a warrant, had an uncapped needle, several prescription pills with no label and a pill bottle with water often used by heroin abusers, a report showed.

April 15

Arrest: A traffic stop near Belmont and Trumbull avenues resulted in the arrest of Christopher J. Morgan of Church Hill Road, Girard, who was charged with contributing to the unruliness of a juvenile. Morgan, 18, had suspected marijuana in his car, along with a 15-year-old Youngstown girl, a report said.

April 16

Criminal damaging: A Fifth Avenue woman noticed a key had been used to damage part of her vehicle’s front fender and hood. Damage came to $1,500.

Theft: A Louise Lane man told police three people left in a car with his bag that contained various Xbox games and an Xbox console.

April 18

Arrest: William R. Wilson, 61, of South Meridian Road, Youngstown, surrendered on a warrant charging criminal simulation.

Theft: A Ravine Drive woman discovered a $5,000 diamond ring missing from her residence.

Identity theft: A Twin Oaks Drive man reported a company-owned laptop computer had been hacked and employees’ Social Security numbers were stolen.

April 19

Arrests: Police picked up Cleo C. Johnson, 26, of Keogh Street, Youngstown, and Austintown authorities transferred custody of James Thomas, 29, of Timberbrook Drive, Canfield. Both were wanted on warrants.

HUBBARD

April 15

Juvenile: Police in the 200 block of School Street handed to Youngstown authorities a 15-year-old Youngstown boy after it was determined he was a missing juvenile. The teen was taken to a city treatment facility that provides mental-health and other services.

April 17

Citation: Police handed a minor-misdemeanor citation to Mark O. Starheim, 62, of West Liberty Street, Hubbard, after two people reported one of Starheim’s dogs had gotten loose and attacked one of their two small dogs as they walked the animals. The accusers’ dogs were not harmed, however.

Recovered property: An East Park Avenue woman reported finding a drone that had crashed on her driveway, apparently from high winds.
