Valley STEM + ME2 Academy students participated in the 2017 Northeast Ohio Robotics Education Program this year taking third place in presentation for high school students. This is the school’s first trophy earned since opening the doors in August.

The competition took place on March 8 at Youngstown State University Beeghly Health and Physical Education Center. The competition is an academic program staffed by a dedicated group of volunteers from education and industry that provides middle and high school students with a “hands-on” learning experience for approximately 8-12 weeks. The program culminates in an annual autonomous robotics competition focusing on STEM (Science, Engineering, Technology and Math) and ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) learning for students in grades 5-12 to compete in two age divisions.

“We are so proud of our students and how well they were able to perform,” Valley STEM coach Rachel Young said. “We had a little late start, but our students rose to the occasion and excelled and we couldn’t be happier with the results.”

The Valley STEM + ME2 Academy’s mission is to prepare ninth- and tenth-grade students with skills necessary to compete in the global economy while nurturing the characteristics of discovery, invention, application and entrepreneurship.
