POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

April 12

Theft: A woman discovered about $24,000 worth of jewelry missing from her Olde Winter Trail home.

Theft: A Youngstown-Pittsburgh Road man noticed two 18-inch chain saws and a 6-foot antique candle holder worth $10,000 were missing.

April 14

Trespassing: A New Castle Road man reported someone had trespassed on his property.

April 16

Animal complaint: Police received a complaint of barking dogs at a residence in the 2400 block of Manor Avenue.

BOARDMAN

April 12

Arrest: Authorities were dispatched to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital to pick up Gregory S. Johnson, 30, of Stillson Place, Boardman, who was wanted on warrants charging aggravated robbery, assault on a police officer, obstructing official business and resisting arrest. A short time earlier, police had responded to a vehicular accident near Glenwood Avenue and, while trying to administer aid, Johnson fought with, injured and bit an officer’s leg, a report showed.

Theft: Two women reportedly stole a back brace and four sets of memory cards from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.

Harassment: A Fox Run Court man said a woman has been sending him text messages that are belittling, degrading and slanderous in nature regarding their divorce.

Arrest: Police on Crestline Avenue took into custody Michael R. Guerrera of Marinthiana Avenue, Boardman. Guerrera, 59, was wanted on a Belmont County warrant charging failure to appear in court.

Drugs: Authorities charged Michael J. Forgash, 41, of Wildwood Drive, Boardman, with two felony counts of drug possession, one felony count of permitting drug abuse and one misdemeanor count each of possession of drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia. The charges were the result of a search warrant for Forgash’s residence, where, police alleged, several hypodermic needles, a suspected crack-cocaine pipe and a digital scale with drug residue, along with bags of suspected heroin, crack cocaine and marijuana, were found.

Assault: A woman alleged that after having invited her landlord to her Sheridan Road apartment to pick up her rent check, he grabbed her head and touched her in unwanted and inappropriate ways.

Domestic violence: Joseph J. Mihaly III, who listed Struthers addresses on Judith Lane and Perry Street, was charged with domestic violence and obstructing official business after a woman alleged that while at a South Avenue discount store, Mihaly had punched her several times during an argument related to stolen medication. Also taken into custody was Lacey A. Livermore, 26, of Carlisle Avenue, Youngstown, who was wanted on a warrant.

April 13

Aggravated menacing: A Struthers man alleged that during an argument with another driver stopped at the Western Reserve Road exit off Interstate 680, the motorist had pointed a gun at him. The other driver told police the Struthers man was behind him at the light, got out and pounded on the accuser’s door, causing him to fear for his safety, at which time he showed the firearm.

Criminal damaging: A piece of concrete was used to smash a vehicle’s rear windshield in the 4100 block of Glenwood Avenue.

Domestic violence: Francisco A. Luciano, 18, of Glendale Avenue, Boardman, was taken into custody on a warrant after a woman alleged that while in a Boardman-Canfield Road restaurant’s parking lot, Luciano had struck her face, grabbed the accuser’s hair and tossed her to the ground during an argument about their child.

Theft: A Youngstown woman reported her wallet missing after having ridden a Western Reserve Transit Authority bus near Glenwood Avenue and U.S. Route 224. A bus surveillance camera showed a woman in her 70s taking and concealing the victim’s property, a report stated.

Theft: A woman reportedly stole $40 worth of children’s merchandise from Walmart.

Unauthorized use of a vehicle: A Stadler Avenue woman said her former boyfriend has failed to return her grandmother’s 2007 Mercury Mariner vehicle.

Criminal damaging: A township woman told authorities that while driving on West Western Reserve Road, a motorist traveling in the opposite direction tossed a cup of liquid, which broke her driver’s-side door mirror.

Assaults: A Boardman woman and a man each reported having been assaulted by the other at a Market Street gas station, apparently during a dispute regarding the way the man had parked his car.

Trespassing: After responding to a report of an unwanted person at Walmart, officers charged Heath G. Shiflett of Seventh Street, Struthers, with criminal trespassing. Shiflett, 27, was at the big-box store in violation of a criminal-trespassing warning he had been given during a previous shoplifting situation, police said.

Theft: Authorities charged Latoya K.M. Broadus, 40, with stealing three dresses and a shirt from Kohl’s, 383 Boardman-Poland Road. Broadus, of Murray Avenue, Campbell, also was wanted on a probation-violation charge from Liberty Township.

Impersonation: A Girard woman reported that soon after having left her job at a Boardman-Poland Road restaurant, a man in a four-door white Chevrolet with flashing red and blue lights on its dashboard tricked her into pulling over near Pinewood Drive and Route 224. The woman got away after seeing that the man was wearing blue jeans and no police uniform, a report said.

Theft: Two women reportedly took seven packages of steaks valued at $200 from Giant Eagle, 476 Boardman-Canfield Road.

Breaking and entering: Candis S. Wynn, 30, of Lucretia Avenue, Girard, was charged with breaking and entering and vandalism after someone had entered Washing Well Laundry, 7170 West Blvd. Surveillance footage showed Wynn rummaging through papers in an office area; also, a battery, laundry detergent and numerous other missing items were found in her car, a report stated.

Theft: Sherry K. Davis, 23, of Park Avenue, Youngstown; Na’Tyjisha D. McCall, 20, of Oregon Avenue, Youngstown; and a 17-year-old city girl were charged, accused of stealing 14 DVDs, a bottle of wine, assorted Easter candy, three articles of clothing and a cellphone case from Walmart.

April 14

Breaking and entering: Someone broke into Tire Pad, 4730 Southern Blvd., before a hole was discovered in a wooded garage door. Twenty catalytic converters and a scanner were removed, for a damage and loss estimate of slightly more than $7,000.

Theft: A 16-year-old Lisbon girl was accused of stealing $89 worth of property, including a bracelet set, from Target, 417 Boardman-Poland Road.

Theft: Jennifer L. Phelps, 38, of Fourth Street, Struthers, was charged in the theft of $84 worth of merchandise that included a decal, from Walmart.

Theft: Two women reportedly stole eight packages of steaks worth $233 from Giant Eagle, 476 Boardman-Canfield Road.

Breaking and entering: Someone broke into a garage in the 10 block of Beechwood Drive, then removed a 12-horsepower chain-drive garage-door opener and $450 worth of miscellaneous hardware items.

April 15

Arrest: Police arrested Lucinda F. Zecher, 42, who listed addresses on Market Street in Boardman and Sixth Street in Campbell. Zecher was wanted on two second-degree misdemeanor warrants charging one count each of animal cruelty and animal abandonment.

Pursuit/drug paraphernalia: The driver of a pickup truck reportedly led officers on a slow-speed pursuit into Youngstown after having refused to pull over for a traffic stop on Market Street and before striking an East Judson Avenue home on the city’s South Side. The man then fled on foot, leaving a suspected crack-cocaine pipe and several other pieces of contraband in the truck, a report showed.

Domestic violence: Austintown police handed to township authorities Jedediah J. Hill, 32, of Brookfield Avenue, Boardman, who was wanted on one count each of domestic violence and making domestic-violence threats. Hill’s wife alleged he had shoved her into a wall, which may have exacerbated a prior shoulder injury she suffered; he also made several calls that included a threat to kill the accuser, she further alleged.

Robbery: A Youngstown man reported that after having been dropped off at Southern Park Mall, a man wearing a black mask, a hood over his head and a blue hooded sweatshirt, and who had a deep, raspy voice, held him at gunpoint and demanded the victim’s money and shoes.

Theft: A $100 spool of cable wire was taken from a work van in the 4000 block of South Avenue.

Theft: Vincent J. Carosella, 54, of Hunter Street, Austintown, was charged with taking a wireless headset, two energy drinks and a set of earbud headphones from Walmart.

Theft: Felicia I. Wallace, 44, was charged after $290 worth of men’s clothing was stolen from Kohl’s. Wallace, of Glenwood Avenue, Boardman, also was wanted on three warrants from the Trumbull County 911 center.

Assault/theft: A Wolosyn Circle woman alleged a man had grabbed her arms, threw the accuser out of bed and onto the floor and struck her head with a cellphone before stealing $400 from her kitchen.

Identity fraud: A Lynn Mar Avenue woman learned that her debit card had been used to make 13 fraudulent purchases from an area Walmart store that totaled about $650.

April 16

Assault/theft: An Aravesta Avenue woman reported a wallet, $70, a driver’s license and other small items stolen. In addition, a man twice punched her face during an argument about their relationship, she also alleged.

Vandalism: A tenant reportedly did $100 in damage to a door to a room at a Market Street motel.

Recovered property: A 2009 Cadillac vehicle was found on Youngstown’s South Side without its tires and wheels after a city man had reported the car stolen while he was in the 7000 block of Market Street.

Assault: A Huntington Drive woman alleged a man had hit her face during a discussion regarding their relationship.
