Salem Chad Anthony’s to-go location closes

SALEM

The Chad Anthony’s

to-go location in Salem has closed.

“It was something fun we tried,” said Tim Merlin, co-owner of Chad Anthony’s. “It was a completely different thing for us. It’s just a carryout location. It wasn’t really making money.”

Merlin said the focus will now be on the Austintown and Liberty Chad Anthony’s locations.

Last month, the Chad Anthony’s Boardman location closed also because it was underperforming. The Salem location was closed as of Wednesday. It was opened about nine months ago.

Last month, Merlin reported to Austintown police a former business partner stole more than $33,000 from the restaurant chain. The business partner’s name was redacted from the police report.

The money was taken through coupon promotions with Valley Deals 365, which is affiliated with The Vindicator and 21 WFMJ-TV and My Valley Deals, which is affiliated with WYTV. Both sold vouchers at half the cost of their worth. The money made from selling the vouchers was divided, so the restaurant got a part of the revenue.

Merlin claimed Chad Anthony’s never received the revenue that was supposedly deposited into an unrelated bank account.

After the report was released, Chad Scianna Sr.’s attorney Brian Kopp came forward to deny his client misappropriated funds from the chain. Scianna was no longer involved in the restaurant business as of January.

No charges in the case have been filed.
