System reforms

COLUMBUS

Lawmakers and representatives of labor and business groups continue to haggle behind the scenes on reforms to the state’s unemployment compensation system, with an eye now toward a potential agreement by midyear. At issue is the future solvency of the state’s jobless assistance program, after Ohio had to borrow billions of dollars from the federal government to meet its unemployment compensation obligations during the recession. Lawmakers made provisions last year to pay off the remainder of that debt, and they’ve debated legislation to prevent comparable borrowing for the program in the future.

Subaru recalls cars

DETROIT

Subaru is recalling more than 33,000 compact cars in the U.S. because a fuel problem can make the engines stall without warning. The recall covers Impreza cars from the 2017 model year.

Subaru says in documents filed with the government that a winter blend of fuel can turn to vapor in the fuel line, causing the engine to run rough and stall. Drivers may not be able to immediately restart the cars, increasing the risk of a crash. No crashes or injuries have been reported. The company has not yet posted a date for the recall to begin.

‘Unicorn’ beverage

NEW YORK

Starbucks is calling a limited-time beverage that changes colors and flavors with a stir of the straw a “Unicorn Frappuccino.” The chain says the drink was inspired by the trend of unicorn-themed food online and starts out purple with a sweet and fruity taste. It changes to pink and tart after it’s stirred to mix in a blue drizzle. It will be available today through Sunday in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
