“LA. Burning: THE RIOTS 25 YEARS LATER” (9 P.M., A&E): This special recalls the infamous 1992 uprising and reexamines the life-changing events through the eyes of those who experienced it firsthand.

“Last Days of Solitary”(9 p.m., PBS): Tthe latest offering from “Frontline,” this searing, two-hour documentary delves into the 200-year history of solitary confinement in the United States and examines a world that has been largely hidden from public view.

Local chef will be on ‘Ninja Warrior’

Patrick Levanty, a chef at Nicolinni’s Restaurant, has been chosen to compete on NBC reality series “American Ninja Warrior.” Shooting will take place May 7-8 at an as-yet undisclosed location in Cleveland. The upcoming season premieres June 12. The weekly series airs at 8 p.m.

A 1998 graduate of Canfield High School, where he was on the track and field team, Levanty has worked in his family’s restaurant for most of his life. He has been trying to win a chance to compete on “American Ninja Warrior” for the past three or four years.

The show pits athletes against one another in an extreme obstacle course. The person who completes the course the fastest is the winner.

Youth workshops at mall art gallery

NILES

The Art Outreach Gallery in Eastwood Mall will offer 33 free art-centered youth classes in 64 summer workshops scheduled June 12-30.

The workshop topics include yoga, acting, painting, book making, macrame, bracelet making and classes on artists such as Van Gogh and Picasso, plus two open studio art classes for the McKinley Art Contest.

Workshops are designed for students 4 to 18 years of age. Area educators from Canfield and Niles McKinley High Schools along with graduates from Youngstown State University and Trumbull Career and Technical Center will conduct the workshops.

Space and supplies are limited. Students must register to enter the classes. Workshops will take place in the Art Outreach Gallery located next to GNC in the JCPenny concourse.

Interested people must complete the registration form and drop it off at the gallery, the Eastwood Mall customer service center, or fax it to 330-544-5929.
