BROOKFIELD

Geologists who handle injection-well permit applications are still reviewing the application by Highland Field Services of Pittsburgh for two wells in the township.

Steve Irwin, spokesman for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, said the agency also is reviewing the public comments provided and has not made a decision.

Brookfield Township trustees and Trumbull County commissioners both wrote to ODNR objecting to the wells because of groundwater contamination issues, truck traffic and abandoned coal mines.

The wells are proposed for near the Wyngate Manor manufactured home community off state Route 7.

A Merwin-Chase Road resident also obtained signatures on a petition asking the wells not be allowed.

A city man spent a week in jail and was fined $200 after a scuffle over a gun landed his girlfriend in the hospital.

Edward Culler, 18, was originally charged with felonious assault a week ago after he told police he had been wrestling with his girlfriend over a gun at their apartment on Youngstown-Warren Road, according to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner.

Police were called to the apartment to investigate a report of domestic violence. The woman was treated for a gunshot wound at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. In Niles Municipal Court on Monday, Culler pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of negligent assault. He was found guilty and sentenced to the week he had already spent in jail.
