OAK HILL, W.Va.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an Easter Sunday home invasion where armed men forced their way into an Oak Hill area residence and shot and killed a woman.

A preliminary investigation shows that two men wearing ski masks, one with a knife and the other with a handgun, forced their way into the home in the middle of the night, a press release from the sheriff’s office said.

The man with the gun shot a 48-year-old woman in the chest, the release said, and then both men fled the residence. Two other people inside the home were unharmed. Police were called around 1:30 a.m. and the woman was dead at the scene, the authorities said.

Investigators do not yet know a motive for the crime.

An autopsy is expected to be performed today.
