Youngstown State University bowling coach Chelsea Gilliam will be the guest speaker at Monday’s luncheon meeting of The Curbstone

Coaches at The Avion Banquet Center on Western Reserve Road in Beaver Township. The event begins at noon and the public is welcome to attend.

Also, plans are under way for the 50th Curbstone Coaches Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony which is set for May 7 at Mr. Anthony’s in Boardman. The

Astrollinthepark wins MVRC filly sprint

Astrollinthepark won her stakes debut on Saturday in the $75,000 filly sprint at the Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course.

The Kentucky-bred filly was more than two lengths ahead of the runner up, finishing with a time of 1:11.73.

Heap accidentally strikes, kill daughter

PHOENIX

Authorities say a former NFL player was moving a truck that ran over and killed his 3-year-daughter in the driveway of their suburban Phoenix home.

The Arizona Republic reports that police say Todd Heap was behind the wheel of the truck when he accidentally struck the girl while moving the vehicle forward outside their home in Mesa on Friday.

Officials say the girl was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Mesa police say impairment was not a factor.

Heap played for the Baltimore Ravens and Arizona Cardinals.

NBA star’s sister killed in auto accident

FEDERAL WAY, WASH.

NBA star Isaiah Thomas’ sister has died in a one-car accident.

The Washington State Patrol said Saturday that 22-year-old Chyna J. Thomas died at the scene on Interstate 5 in Federal Way after the accident about 5 a.m. The police report said she wasn’t wearing a seat belt.

Isaiah Thomas is a high-scoring guard for the Boston Celtics. From Tacoma, he played at Curtis High School and the University of Washington.

“We are terribly saddened by the tragic loss of Chyna Thomas,” the Celtics said in a statement. “The thoughts and prayers of the entire Celtics organization are with Isaiah and his family.”

The Celtics open the playoffs Sunday in Boston against the Chicago Bulls.

Umpire concussed by foul tip in Toronto

Plate umpire Dale Scott was out of the hospital early Saturday, hours after sustaining a concussion when he was hit in the mask by a foul tip from Baltimore slugger Mark Trumbo during a game in Toronto.

Scott told The Associated Press by text that he was feeling OK and that the results of a CT scan were normal.

The veteran crew chief left the field on a spinal board in the eighth inning after being struck Friday night. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital.

The game was delayed more than 10 minutes. It resumed with second base umpire Brian Knight working behind home plate.

Real Madrid to play in MLS All-Star Game

Real Madrid will play the Major League Soccer All-Stars at Chicago on Aug. 2.

Los Blancos, the defending European champion and current Spanish league leader, feature reigning FIFA player of the year Cristian Ronaldo, but it is unclear whether Ronaldo will be with Real that soon after the Confederations Cup, which ends July 2.

The All-Star Game, which since 2005 has featured European clubs against MLS All-Stars, will be played at Soldier Field. It is the first time a La Liga team has played in the All-Star Game.
