Youth theater presents ‘Jungle Book’

The Youngstown Playhouse youth theater will end its season with “The Jungle Book.”

The classic children’s tale will be performed on the main stage at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Patricia M. Fagan is the director.

The play, based on the book by Rudyard Kipling and adapted to the stage by Kathryn Schultz Miller, tells the story of a boy raised in the wild by wolves and his adventures with animal friends and foes in the jungle. It will be performed by a cast of nearly 30 local children and adults.

Denise Scully and Starr M. McClure serve as assistant directors.

Mikey Zoccali and Michael Jaye Pompoco share the lead role of the boy Mowgli at different ages, and Kenny Day portrays the author, Rudyard Kip-ling.

Playing the roles made familiar by two Disney films are Samantha Fitschen (Bagheera the panther), Christopher Scott (Baloo the bear), Gene Metro (Hathi the elephant), Meredith Deist (Kaa the snake), and Christopher Hager (Shere Khan the tiger).

Completing the cast in various roles are Nicole Barber, Hannah Boyle, Catie Catcott, Caylee Catcott, Liam Corey, Owen Corey, Isabel Dutton, Savanah Dutton, Finn Fitschen-Wilmes, Millie Heschmeyer, Sophie Heschmeyer, McKenna Lago, Ryan Lamb, Maeve Law, Drew Peterson, Julia Pickens, Olivia Pickens, Jeremy Thomas Sanfrey and George Zordich.

Tickets are $10 for general admission ($7 for children 12 and under).
