The smell of warm pancakes and syrup filled the air as the Boardman Rotary hosted its 35th annual Pancake Breakfast at Boardman Park the weekends of March 18, 19, 25 and 26.
The pancake breakfast is one of two major fundraisers the Boardman Rotary hosts to raise money.
“All the money that we raise goes back to the community,” said Jill Cox, co-chair of the event.
“We give to Salvation Army, Rescue Mission, Boardman schools and library, and helped with the funding of a literacy program in Guatamala,” said Boardman Rotary President Celeste Lisko.
Boardman Rotary was sponsored by several business and organizations allowing them to host the pancake breakfast without having to make a large purchase for the supplies needed. Sams Club provided the pancake mix and syrup, the Youngstown Phantoms provided the room and several others that helped to make the breakfast a success.
The pancake breakfast is hosted throughout a period of two weekends allowing guests from all around the community to be able to attend. The Rotary prepares enough pancakes and breakfast items to serve around 3,000 people. The breakfast was from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m., which provided a long period of time for guests to come.
“The thing that’s neat is we see people who come for both Saturdays,” said Cox.
Boardman Rotarians, Boy Scout troops, Boardman High School Emerging Leaders and several others came to volunteer their time to serve breakfast to the guests who attended. Tickets were $6 for people over the age of 6 and could be bought at the door or prior to the breakfast.
The nice weather brought in several more people to eat a pancake breakfast and spend time outside at Boardman Park.
The next event the Boardman Rotary is hosting is Oktoberfest at Boardman Park in October.
