Rummage sale to be April 22

There will be a rummage sale at Greenbriar Healthcare Center and the Commons at Greenbriar on April 22 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. The sale includes furniture, paintings and some home decor. For more information, call Meghan Miller at 330-726-3700. All proceeds will benefit the activity department.

Transition fair and forum to be at MCCTC

Are you ready to learn more about post-secondary options and employment services for students with disabilities? Attend the Transition Fair and Forum on April 26 from 5-7 p.m. in the Joyce Brooks Center at MCCTC. An eventful evening is planned with more than 25 exhibitors on site from a range of programs, as well as support for students with disabilities, families and educators. This event will showcase training programs, resources and community agencies that facilitate the transition of youth with special needs to community/employment. Breakout sessions include Youngstown State university Disability Services and OhioMeansJobs. Students, families and educators are invited to learn their options, become informed and ask questions. Diabetes self-management education classes

There will be classes on diabetes self-management education on April 18-20 from 6-8:30 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital’s Azalea Room. The hospital is located at 8401 Market Street on Boardman. Self-Management Education (DSME) sessions will help you learn how to improve your health by taking charge of your diabetes. Sessions include topics such as what diabetes is, diabetes medicines, monitoring your blood glucose, benefits of exercise, diet and customized meal planning. A class session includes a series of three classes in a row on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Sessions are offered weekly, 2 1/2-3 hours each day in the morning or evening at the three hospitals (see class schedule for specific time and place). They are taught by a Registered Nurse Diabetes Educator and Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) Diabetes Educator. A doctor referral is needed to enroll. Trash and Treasure sale to be May 3 and 4

The Boardman United Methodist Church, located at 6809 Market St. in Boardman, will host a spring Trash and Treasure sale on May 3 and 4 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Thursday is bargain bag day. Coffee, lunch and doughnuts will be available for purchase.

Monday Night Writers meeting scheduled for April 17

The next meeting of Monday Night Writers will be April 17 from 6-8 p.m. in the small meeting room at the Canfield branch of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County, located at 43 W Main St. in Canfield. Area writers, both published and unpublished, are invited to attend. Led by professional writer Nancy Christie, author of “Traveling Left Of Center And Other Stories,” the two-hour sessions offer an opportunity for members to get group feedback on ‘works-in-progress.’ For more information, contact Nancy Christie at nancy@nancychristie.com.

Easter Brunch to be hosted at Fellows Riverside Gardens

Mill Creek MetroParks will host an Easter Brunch at Fellows Riverside Gardens, catered by Inspired Catering by Kravitz. The brunch will take place on April 16 and there will be two seatings, one at 11 a.m. and the other at 2 p.m. The cost is $28 for adults, $15 for children ages 12 and under and free for children under the age of 4. Victorian Players to present “Twelfth Night”

The Victorian Players will present Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night” on April 15, 21, 22 and 23, directed by Amy Anne Kibler. The Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30 p.m.; the Sunday matinee is at 2 p.m. There is NO performance on Easter Sunday. Tickets are $13 for adults, $10 for students and senior citizens, and tickets can be purchased at the door. The box office opens one hour prior to curtain. For reservations, call 330-746-5455.

Tales and talk for 2s and 3s

Join the Boardman library on April 19 at 10 a.m. for developmentally appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finger plays and other activities that will help your child (ages 2-3) become a successful reader.

Cardinal Mooney High School announces 14th annual “Celebrate Mooney” auction

Cardinal Mooney High School has set the date for its 14th annual fundraising Auction as April 29. The largest fundraising event of the year will take place at the school, located at 2545 Erie St, in Youngstown, from 5:30-11 p.m. Cocktails and a silent auction will begin at 5 p.m. with dinner at 7 p.m. Tickets are available by calling the school at 330-788-5007 or online through the Auction link on www.cardinalmooney.com Individual tickets are $75, which include dinner and open bar. This year’s theme is “Celebrate Mooney: Embracing Our Past, Highlighting Our Present, and Building a Bright Future.” As part of the celebration, Mooney will be honoring Diane Mastro Nard, Honorary Chairwoman and former CMHS teacher and Speech Coach. Smart Money Picture Bingo

Celebrate Smart Money Week at the Boardman library on April 25 at 7 p.m. and April 26 at 10 a.m. with fun and prizes for the whole family. Picture Bingo for all ages. Each child will receive a piggy bank. Children must be accompanied by an adult to this half-hour program. This is for the family.

Bonding with babies and books

This event is for caregivers and their little ones who are 6-23 months. There will be 20 minutes of language enrichment including rhymes, songs and stories, followed by time to play and socialize at the Boardman library every Tuesday in April at 10 a.m.

Boats that float

Hear stories and launch your boat in a one-hour story time for children of all ages at the Boardman library on April 18 at 7 p.m. The boats will be launched outside in the outdoor play area, or indoors if raining. A family program for children of all ages; preschoolers must attend with an adult.

Fiction writing workshop

Join the Boardman library on April 19 at 7 p.m. to learn about personal narratives and what the difference is between telling a story and showing a story. Then write your own personal narrative and share it. This event is for teens in grades 7-12.

It’s all about yarn

Bring in your crochet, knitting, plastic canvas or “anything with yarn” project and learn from one another at the Boardman library on April 21 at 11 a.m. Participants are encouraged to bring all yarn UFOs (unfinished objects). This event is for adults.

Newcomers of Mahoning Valley to meet on April 26

Newcomers of Mahoning Valley will have their luncheon meeting for this month on April 26 at Nicolinni’s in Boardman at 11:30 a.m. The program will be a speaker from the School of Potential Development, a discussion on autism. They will also be electing officers for next year. Other activities happening this month will be the movie and lunch group on April 19 and needlework on April 11. The book club will be discussing “A Man Called Ova” by Fredrik Backman on April 27. Members will be calling others on updates on Roundtowners and the birthday group. Newcomers welcomes anyone who is looking to learn more about the community and interested in forming new friendships, especially anyone who has had a change in their life and would like to try something new. This club is for adult fans of Young Adult literature who are ages 18 and up. Talk about why you like YA at the Boardman library on April 17 at 6:30 p.m. Read and discuss. This month you will be discussing “A Thousand Boy Kisses” by Tillie Cole. This club is for adults.

Library closings

All libraries in the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County system will be closed on April 15 and 16.

Pink Ribbon Golf Classic to be July 17

The annual Pink Ribbon Golf Classic will take place at Avalon Lakes Golf and Country Club on July 17. All proceeds from this event will go directly to the American Cancer Society.
