Village police are looking into an allegation that a Poland Seminary High School teacher had improper contact with a student, police confirmed to The Vindicator.

The police investigation into the matter was initiated after the school district contacted police.

At a school board meeting Monday, Cassandra Kibler, who teaches Italian at the high school, was put on unpaid administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation.

The school district was tipped off Friday that Kibler was having an “inappropriate” relationship with a male student.

White leaves race

Seventh Ward Councilman Eugene Mach II will win the Democratic Party nomination for re-election May 2 because his opponent, Ronald White Sr., has dropped out of the race. White notified the Trumbull County Board of Elections recently that he is withdrawing because of medical issues.

The ballots already have been printed, but notices will be placed on voting machines and included with paper ballots telling voters that votes for White won’t count, said Stephanie Penrose, board of elections director. Mach will face a Republican opponent in the general election – Frank Naypaver of Florine Street in Leavittsburg.

Blessing at Ursuline

Ursuline High School had a blessing and dedication for the completed Phase II Science Wing Renovation Monday morning. Classroom plaques honoring John Ulicney and the late Wilfred Sanders also were blessed. Together, they taught for a combined 92 years.

As part of Phase II, three science laboratories were converted into two larger life science laboratories with a shared prep room for teachers. The labs feature new ceilings, lighting, flooring, window blinds, teacher stations and lab tables; the latest safety features include eye wash and shower stations; new expanded sinks and counter space to facilitate dissections and experiments.

Ads Club places 3rd

YOUNGSTOWN

Youngstown State University’s Ads Club, a collegiate chapter of the American Advertising Federation, battled to a third-place finish at the 2017 National Student Advertising, District 5 Regional Competition. This year’s team – including presenters, John Green, Abby Harris, Jake Cole and Adam Nye – was the first team to place in YSU Ads Club’s history.

The team also received an award for “Best Media Plan” for its in-depth strategy and analysis of media platforms it developed for this year’s client, Taipei Frozen foods. The team members who constructed the media plan were Jake Cole and Emily Lampe with help from Ray Klempay, Natalie Agnone and Abby Harris.
