‘Shawshank’ oak tree is cut up, hauled away
MANSFIELD
What remained of a 200-year-old oak tree made famous by the movie “Shawshank Redemption” has been cut up and hauled away by an owner of the north-central Ohio property.
The Mansfield News-Journal reported that Dan Dees said last week he plans to use some of the wood to make a table. The tree was rotted in the middle when high winds knocked down a portion in 2011. It was further damaged during a storm last July.
The tree was in one of the final scenes of the 1994 film starring Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman. It’s underneath the tree that Freeman’s character finds an important letter buried by Robbins’ character.
Fans could view the tree as part of a series of places in the Mansfield-area related to the film.
George, Charlotte to be in Pippa’s wedding
LONDON
Look for Prince George and Princess Charlotte to steal a few hearts when their aunt Pippa Middleton marries next month.
Kensington Palace said Monday that George, 3, and Charlotte, 1, will be page boy and bridesmaid at the May 20 nuptials of Middleton and financier James Matthews.
They are the children of Prince William and his wife Kate, who is Pippa’s sister. William, Kate and Prince Harry will all attend the high-profile wedding. It’s not yet clear what role Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, will have in the wedding party of her only sister. Matthews proposed to Pippa Middleton last year. The couple will marry at St. Mark’s Church in Englefield, 45 miles west of London.
