Sustainability lecture at Shenango campus
Staff report
SHARON, PA.
Penn State Shenango’s free faculty lecture series will continue April 20 when biology instructor Tamrya d’Artenay will speak on “Why You Should Care About Sustainability Everyday – Not Just on Earth Day” at noon in Sharon Hall Room 105.
Unsustainable practices are a threat to the future of human society. From climate change to rainforest destruction, humans are changing the biosphere on a scale never witnessed before.
This could be the generation that decides how future people will live. Will we accept green energy, overhaul our industrial food production system, and modify our overconsumptive behaviors while still meeting basic human needs?
D’Artenay teaches courses in biology, as well as environmental science and sustainability. She received her doctorate in plant biology from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.
Soon after joining the Shenango campus, d’Artenay received the Leonard Riforgiato Teaching Award. An expert in botany, she is well-published and has presented nationally.
She is an active faculty member supporting the campus’ summer STEM camp as well as its annual Earth Fest event.
Outside the university, she is an avid swimmer and has competed in two triathlons this past year.
