Gathering Place event, sponsored by Lord of Life Church, Canfield, will meet at 11 a.m. Monday at Lord of Life Church, 550 N. Broad St., Canfield. Girard Multi-Generational Center, 443 Trumbull Ave., will offer the following opportunities: 1 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays through April 28, Matter of Balance classes, materials and snacks provided, registration required; adult coloring contest, through April 28; Monday, crocheting classes at 10:15 a.m., and back to the 50s Car Cruise potluck luncheon noon to 2 p.m. in the gym; Tuesday, craft class at 9:30 a.m.; Wednesday, YSU Vibe program seminar at 9:15 a.m.; Thursday, movies with popcorn and hot chocolate at 9:30; and Friday, Tai Chi classes at noon ($5/class). Guardian Angels of Trumbull County, a volunteer program of the Trumbull County Probate Court, is looking for volunteers. Angel volunteers receive training to become advocates who reach out as friends to seniors who may need a friendly phone call, a visit in a nursing home, or a visit at home. Angels also are involved in planning special events for seniors such as health fairs and Make a Difference day projects. Niles S.C.O.P.E. Senior Center, 14 E. State St., will offer these activities: April 21, free Lunch & Learn program from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. with Dr. Robert Fleischer from Krause Optical, who will discuss Eye Care. Senior Corps Retired Senior Volunteer Program, located in First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown, 201 Wick Ave., is under the Corp. for National and Community Service. It is a volunteer program whose aim is to link volunteers, age 55 and over, with a variety of volunteer opportunities within their community. There are sites throughout Mahoning and Trumbull counties with opportunities such as senior companionship, transcription for museums, meal delivery for home bound seniors, construction and many other opportunities. There is no maximum requirement of volunteer hours. There is a short application, and the program coordinator will meet with volunteers to match them with their preferred site based on their interests, skills and location.
