Lecture on historic local photographs

Bill Lawson will present “Pictures Worth a Thousand Words” at the Mahoning Valley Historical Society’s next Bites and Bits of History lunch program April 20 at noon at the Tyler History Center, 325 W. Federal St.

Lawson, executive director of MVHS, will share some photographs from the society’s archives and discuss them. Attendees who would like to submit a photograph for Lawson to discuss can email a digital copy to education@mahoninghistory.org by Friday.

Guests can have lunch at Overture restaurant, which is having a $6 special for the lecture series. Call 330-744-9900 for reservations.

May 18: Historic preservation, by architect Paul Hagman. Learn about the importance of historic and heritage preservation, which aim is to maintain and increase the value of buildings by keeping their original form.

June 15: A History of Jewish Youngstown, by local historian and author Tom Welsh. This presentation will trace the history of one of Ohio’s oldest Jewish communities.
