Extension service hosts fruit-pruning, garden programs

Staff report

Mahoning County Ohio State University Extension Service is hosting two programs this month.

Learn how to prune apple and peach trees with the extension service and White House Fruit Farms.

Pruning is important to the success of fruit trees, and knowing how to properly prune can aid in the success of future crops.

Demonstrations will be done by Eric Barrett and Dave and David Hull. The program begins at 1 p.m. April 22 at White House Fruit Farms, 9249 Youngstown-Salem Road, Green Township.

This event will take place rain or shine, so warm dress and rugged shoes or boots are recommended.

The extension service also sponsors a program with the Mahoning County Master Gardeners in which participants will learn more about planting basics and what kind of vegetables can be successful in the garden.

Tim Parks, David Sprague, Bill Snyder, Peg Zeleznik and Barrett will teach some basics in breakout sessions. The program will begin at 6 p.m. April 25 at the Canfield Fairgrounds, 7265 Columbiana Canfield Road.

Registration for these programs is $20 each, per person. To register or learn more about either event, call the extension service at 330-533-5538.
