Hosting praise, worship

Born Again Ministries, 102 Penn Ave., will host Hosanna, in Praise and Worship at 3 p.m. Sunday. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Jack Pettis, pastor of Mount Zion Baptist Church.

Also participating in the service will be Betty Banks and a peewee guitar soloist, as well as God Angels of Praise. The senior pastor is Corinthia Reynolds.

Keyboardist to perform

Spirituality series

CANFIELD

The Ursuline Center, 4280 Shields Road, invites the public to experience its spirituality series titled “Pathways of Spiritual Living” from 10 to 11 a.m. or 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Presenter Eileen W. Novotny will explore human spirituality and examine different paths of prayer. The cost for each class is a donation in the amount of $10.

Holy Week services

Sts. Peter and Paul Ukranian Orthodox Church, 1025 N. Belle Vista Ave., invites the public to participate in its Holy Week services.

The Sacrament of Confession will take place at 9 a.m. followed by the Blessing of the Willows; Festal Divine Liturgy and children’s procession at 9:30 a.m. Sunday. Great Thursday Vesperal Liturgy of St. Basil will begin at 6:15 p.m. Thursday. Royal Hours of Great and Holy Friday will take place at 11:15 a.m. and Vespers with Procession with Holy Shroud will begin at 7:30 p.m. Good Friday.

The Blessing of Paschal Food Baskets at the Orthodox Center will begin at 6 p.m., and the church will be open for veneration of Holy Shroud and private prayer beginning at 6:30 p.m. next Saturday. Easter service will begin at 7:30 a.m. Easter Sunday, April 16.

Alliance will meet

Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance will meet at 11 a.m. Monday at Christ Centered Church, 3300 Hudson Ave. Bishop Kenneth Paramore and Dr. Rosie Taylor will serve as gathering hosts. The Rev. Bob Offerdahl will provide Spiritual Enrichment moment.

Stations of the Cross

YOUNGSTOWN

Ursuline High School will pray the Stations of the Cross beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the school gymnasium. The student body will draw on the form done each year by Pax Christi in New York City, which connects Jesus’ walk to the Cross with the world today.

Special focus will be given to praying for refugees, those living with addictions, victims of human trafficking, and for an end to all other social injustices.

The Rev. Richard Murphy, high-school president, will lead the Stations of the Cross. Members of the Drama Club will read Scripture passages, reflections and will act out symbolic scenes.

The Class of 2017 will form a circle of candlelight for the 15th Station as they promise to continue to build the kingdom of God as they graduate and move on to various life paths. El Fuego, the liturgical choir, will lead the school community in sung responses.

Annual passion play

YOUNGSTOWN

Rising Star Baptist Church, 2943 Wardle Ave., will host its annual passion play “Your Masterpiece.” The play will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and next Saturday.

Doors open at 6 p.m. The event is free, but there will be free-will offerings all three days. There will be no production on Easter Sunday.

‘Journey with the Cross’

YOUNGSTOWN

Ambassadors for Christ, an organization of churches on the East Side of Youngstown, will gather at noon Good Friday at We Walk by Faith Bible Church, 1636 Himrod Ave., for their 16th annual “Journey with the Cross.” All are welcome to participate in this event.

After a gathering prayer, participants begin the walk with a large wooden cross. Each person is given the opportunity to carry the cross. Walking along in song, the group will periodically stop at various street corners along the way for prayer and reflection as the Stations of the Cross are read by one of the pastors.

The journey through Youngstown begins at We Walk by Faith Bible Church and follows Oak Street toward downtown. It continues left onto Wick Avenue, left at the courthouse on Commerce Street, left onto East Federal Street and then over the bridge to Wilson Avenue, concluding at Holy Apostles/St. Stephen of Hungary Catholic Church.

Transportation will be provided back to the starting point.

‘Greatest Story’

More than 50 churches throughout Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana and Lawrence counties, in association with Kingdom Arise and NOW Youngstown, will gather at the Covelli Centre, 229 E. Front St., at 7 p.m. Good Friday. Bishop Joseph L. Garlington Sr. of Covenant Church in Pittsburgh, is the keynote speaker. A combined community adult and children’s choir will lead praise and worship.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the event is free and open to the public.

‘Seven Sayings of Christ’

‘Meet Me at the Cross’

YOUNGSTOWN

Bishop Joseph Garlington is the guest speaker at “Meet Me At the Cross” on Good Friday, at the Covelli Centre on Front Street. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the nondenominational service will take place from 7 to 9 p.m.

The free event will feature a community worship team and choir as well as a community children’s choir. There will be interpreters for the deaf and hard of hearing and Spanish interpretation.
