Dad faces 10 charges

A 10-year-old boy who attends Hubbard Elementary School told authorities his father recruited his siblings to assault and beat him, and bribed them to carry out the crime, according to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner.
About two weeks ago the boy went to the school nurse and showed her the bruises he said he received while visiting his father’s home in Sharon, Pa.
Thursday, Sharon police charged 35-year-old Virgil Dennison with 10 charges: three counts of criminal solicitation to commit assault, three counts of corruption of minors and four counts of child endangering.
Sharon Police Chief Gerry Smith told WFMJ there are allegations the father watched the assault on a baby monitor in the next room.
Dennison has a court hearing April 19.
New license plates

“Ohio Down Syndrome Awareness” license plates are now for sale at the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles. For every license plate sold, $25 will go to six Ohio associations dedicated to down syndrome advocacy and awareness.

Community health fair

To celebrate Minority Health Month, Organizacion Civica y Cultural Hispana Americana Inc. will host a community health fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the social service agency’s hall, 3660 Shirley Road. A variety of community programs gather to promote general health by providing presentations and educational materials. The health fair’s goal is to provide a collective forum in an effort to foster health promotion and prevention awareness for families and community members so they can achieve their highest level of wellness. More than 20 health-care representatives will be on hand to administer various health screenings.
Culvert repair

Bloomfield Geneva Road, also known as Plank Road, in Bloomfield Township will be closed between Creaser Ashtabula Road and Countyline Donley Road for culvert repair effective Wednesday and Thursday between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m.
The recommended detour route is southeast on Bloomfield Geneva, south on state Route 45, west on state Route 87, north on state Route 534, and east on Countyline Donley.
Teacher award

Struthers High School English teacher Richard Gage has a won a 2017 Barnes & Noble “My Favorite Teacher” award.
Student Gabriella McLaughlin nominated Gage for the award.
Gage will receive a gift certificate during a ceremony at 11:30 a.m. today at Barnes & Noble Booksellers store in Boardman.
