Three charged following generator theft
Staff report
CANFIELD
A woman was arrested Wednesday for providing false evidence to police last month.
Angelica Roman, 43, of Ravenna, told police a stolen generator was a gift from her father.
City police had seized the generator during a traffic stop on state Route 46 at 3:30 a.m. March 17. Jonathan English, 36, of Ravenna, told police he was traveling to the Salem Walmart to purchase a part for his generator, but the officer detected inconsistencies in his story.
His uncle Robert English, 55, also of Ravenna, was in the car as well.
Roman came to the station to ask police to return the generator.
Detectives later determined that the generator had come from the Walmart at 6001 Mahoning Ave in Austintown. Surveillance footage showed two men affixing a UPC label to the generator so that the $488 item would only cost $9.87.
The men also stole an iPhone 6S, police said.
The Austintown Police Department issued warrants on March 27 for Robert and Jonathan English on charges of felony theft.
Robert English was arrested on Monday. Jonathan English has not been processed.
Canfield police arrested Roman on charges of falsification on Wednesday.
