The Austintown Council of PTAs and the Fitch Art Department hosted the ninth annual Souper Supper on March 16 at Fitch High School.

Deb Fuller and Lori Schafer worked with the Austintown PTA members to organize the event. The Souper Supper was create to raise money to help out Austintown students and their families who are in need.

Close to 100 people made reservations to the supper prior to the event, while some purchased tickets at the door. There is a Chinese auction, a 50/50 and a spot for donations as another way to raise money during the meal. The baskets were put together by each of the Austintown school PTAs and some were donated by other businesses and organizations in the community. All of the proceeds raised from the event goes to the families. The PTA Council likes to give the families a $50-$75 dollar gift card that will really make an impact.

Austintown Fitch and Intermediate students created the bowls that were given to the guests who came and bought a dinner that included the bowl.

“We’re trying to show people that a lot of people go hungry and a bowl of soup and a piece of bread is pretty much all that they would get. So we use that as a fundraiser and people come and get a bowl of soup and their bread,” said Fuller.

The soup is always donated and this year it was donated by Christopher’s at the End of the Tunnel. There were several different types of soup for the guests to choose from and cookies that were also donated for dessert. PTA members were at the event serving the food, selling the bowls and selling tickets for the event, the raffle and the Chinese auction.

“A lot of people come and it’s like a tradition every year they get a new bowl and it reminds them that they did something good. They came and donated to a great cause,” said Fuller.
