Marriott award

CANFIELD

A local Marriott hotel received three guest-service awards including the Platinum Circle Award, which is only awarded to the top 5 percent of Courtyard by Marriott hotels for guest satisfaction.

The Courtyard Marriott Youngstown-Canfield, 4173 Westford Place, also received awards in room cleanliness and food quality. It had the highest score among Courtyard by Marriott hotels in each category.

Free tax preparation

Free tax preparation will be available at the Emmanuel Community Care Center, 2 North Main St., from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Ribbon cutting

The Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber will have a celebratory ribbon-cutting ceremony for “Too” Hot Mama’s at 129 N. Main St. at 10 a.m. today.

“Too” Hot Mamas is a pepper company created by cousins Christina Frohman and Audra Horton, who started canning their own peppers in summer 2015 after trying different types of canned peppers. They decided they wanted to create a product that was versatile and full of flavor for friends and family to enjoy.

Mortgage rate falls

WASHINGTON

Long-term U.S. mortgage rates fell this week for a third straight week, approaching their low points for the year.

Mortgage buyer Freddie Mac said Thursday the rate on 30-year fixed-rate home loans declined to 4.10 percent from 4.14 percent last week. That brought the benchmark rate close to its 2017 low of 4.09 percent reached on Jan. 19.
