CANFIELD

Max Lee, a Canfield High School senior, received the $500 Franklin B. Walter local scholarship from the Mahoning County Educational Service Center this year.

Lee will go on to represent the MCESC as one of the 88 other Ohioan representatives from each county at the 28th annual Franklin B. Walter All-Scholastic Awards Program in Columbus next week.

The Franklin B. Walter Scholarship is awarded to one high-school senior from each county that has shown outstanding academic achievement through grades, test scores, involvement in activities and awards.

According to a news release, Lee is involved with activities including tennis, debate, academic challenge, the National Honor Society and student council.

He also founded a nonprofit organization called MyGateway Prep, which provides free ACT tutoring to students in Mahoning County and other states.

He also volunteers at Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley, Angels for Animals in Green Township and Shepherd of the Valley.

With the help of the scholarship, Lee plans to attend Stanford University in the fall and major in public policy.
