Cardinal Mooney hosts annual “Celebrate Mooney” auction
Cardinal Mooney High School has set the date for its 14th annual fundraising Auction as April 29. The largest fundraising event of the year will take place at the school, located at 2545 Erie St, in Youngstown, from 5:30-11 p.m. Cocktails and a silent auction will begin at 5 p.m. with dinner at 7 p.m. Tickets are available by calling the school at 330-788-5007 or online through the Auction link on www.cardinalmooney.com Individual tickets are $75, which include dinner and open bar. RSVP by April 15. This year’s theme is “Celebrate Mooney: Embracing Our Past, Highlighting Our Present, and Building a Bright Future.” As part of the celebration, Mooney will be honoring Diane Mastro Nard, Honorary Chairwoman and former CMHS teacher and Speech Coach. Additional features are a 50/50 raffle, silent and Chinese auctions. ABWA meeting to be April 11
The Mill Creek Chapter of American Business Women’s Association will meet on April 11 at 6:30 p.m. at A La Cart in Canfield. Dinner will be southern baked chicken, roast beef, potato au gratin, peas and carrots, salad, Jello, cole slaw and dessert. The cost is $18. The speaker for the evening will be Chief Don Hutchinson of the Cardinal Fire Department, to speak on the drug problem in Ohio.

Friendly Squares to dance
The Niles Friendly Squares will host its monthly square dance on April 8 from 7:30-10 p.m. at the Niles SCOPE Center, located at 14 E. State St. in Niles. Dress is casual and there is a $6 donation per person at the door. This will be a high/low dance with alternating tips for new dancers currently taking lessons and tips for more experienced dancers. Simione awarded Fourth Diamond
The National Speech and Debate Association recently announced the most recent winners of the Diamond Coach Award. Thirty-three speech and debate coaches have earned this prestigious award in the National Speech and Debate Association’s Honor Society. Because of these coaches, thousands of students have access to the life changing benefits of speech and debate. The National Speech and Debate Association’s Honor Society has been recognizing student and coach achievements in speech and debate since 1925. The prestigious diamond award recognizes a professional career that combines excellence and longevity in speech and debate. Boardman High School coach Eric Simione has been awarded the Fourth Diamond.
Trash and Treasure sale to be May 3 and 4
The Boardman United Methodist Church, located at 6809 Market St. in Boardman, will host a spring Trash and Treasure sale on May 3 and 4 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Thursday is bargain bag day. Coffee, lunch and doughnuts will be available for purchase.
Knitting Guild meeting to be April 11
The Western Reserve Knitting Guild will meet on April 11 at 7 p.m. at the Rotary Community Building in Fair Park in Canfield. A brief program on Knitting Slang will be presented and members are encouraged to bring and show their knitted Herringbone Stitch pillows. Smart Money Picture Bingo
Celebrate Smart Money Week at the Boardman library on April 25 at 7 p.m. and April 26 at 10 a.m. with fun and prizes for the whole family. Picture Bingo for all ages. Each child will receive a piggy bank. Children must be accompanied by an adult to this half-hour program. This is for the family.
Playtime at your library
Prepare for kindergarten through play at the Boardman library on April 12 at 10 a.m. You’ll read a story and have fun with developmentally appropriate games and activities that you can do with your child to help them get ready for Kindergarten. This is for children ages 2-6. All children under 7 must be accompanied by an adult to this one-hour program.
Bonding with babies and books
This event is for caregivers and their little ones who are 6-23 months. There will be 20 minutes of language enrichment including rhymes, songs and stories, followed by time to play and socialize at the Boardman library every Tuesday in April at 10 a.m.
Tales and talk for 2s and 3s
Join the Boardman library on April 19 at 10 a.m. for developmentally appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finger plays and other activities that will help your child (ages 2-3) become a successful reader.
Boats that float
Hear stories and launch your boat in a one-hour story time for children of all ages at the Boardman library on April 18 at 7 p.m. The boats will be launched outside in the outdoor play area, or indoors if raining. A family program for children of all ages; preschoolers must attend with an adult.
Read to some bunny
Come be a book buddy and read to a licensed therapy rabbit from the Ohio Affiliate of the Bunnies in Baskets at the Boardman library on April 8 at 10 a.m. School-age children are welcome to sit and read out loud for 20 minutes.
Lego mindstorms robots, part one
Discover how to build, program and test Lego Mindstorms Robots at the Boardman library on April 13 at from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Children will work through the stages of building and programming the robots. Fiction writing workshop
Join the Boardman library on April 19 at 7 p.m. to learn about personal narratives and what the difference is between telling a story and showing a story. Then write your own personal narrative and share it. This event is for teens in grades 7-12.

Bring in your crochet, knitting, plastic canvas or “anything with yarn” project and learn from one another at the Boardman library on April 21 at 11 a.m. Participants are encouraged to bring all yarn UFOs (unfinished objects). This event is for adults.

Pink Ribbon Golf Classic to be July 17
The annual Pink Ribbon Golf Classic will take place at Avalon Lakes Golf and Country Club on July 17. All proceeds from this event will go directly to the American Cancer Society.
