Friendly Squares to dance on April 8
The Niles Friendly Squares will host its monthly square dance on April 8 from 7:30-10 p.m. at the Niles SCOPE Center, located at 14 E. State St. in Niles. Dress is casual and there is a $6 donation per person at the door. This will be a high/low dance with alternating tips for new dancers currently taking lessons and tips for more experienced dancers. Austintown Bounce hosts Eggstravaganza
Austintown Bounce will be hosting its annual Bounce with Bunny Easter Eggstravaganza from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. on April 8. A $5 admission will get you involved in the Easter Egg Hunt that starts at 9:30 a.m., pictures with the Easter Bunny, prize raffles, goodie bags and inflatable bounce time. There will be more than 5,000 eggs and dozens of prizes so remember to bring your own Easter basket. The Easter Eggstravaganza is sponsored by First American Loans. Kindergarten registration April 26, 27
Kindergarten registration appointments are still available for the 2017-2018 school year for any student residing in the Austintown School District. April 26 and 27 registration dates still have time slots available. Kindergarten registration packets are available Monday through Friday at Austintown Elementary school from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and at Austintown Early Learning Center from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. The packet explains all necessary documents needed. All new kindergarten students must attend a registration and screening appointment. Registration and Screening for the 2017-2018 school year is done by appointment only. Trash and Treasure sale to be April 8
The Ladies of Br. 22, The Youngstown Saxon Club, is sponsoring a Trash and Treasure sale on April 8 in the Saxon Club Ballroom, located at 710 S. Meridian Road in Youngstown, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. A luncheon of sauerkraut, hotdogs and German sausage sandwiches, chips, soft drinks and coffee will be served from 11 a.m. onward. It is also available for take out. The groups famous chicken dumpling soup will also be available for purchase. Proceeds from this event will help benefit the scholarship fund for students at Youngstown State University. Donations of money and good (other than clothing) are appreciated. All are welcome.
Local group to collect for Measure-Up Campaign
Knights of Columbus, Immacolata Council #15086 will be collecting for the Measure-Up Campaign at the Sparkle Market located in Cornersburg on April 30 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. The Measure-Up Campaign is run state-wide in the spring of each year, with the goal being to help those less fortunate with developmental disabilities. The money the council collects is divided, with 80 percent going locally to aid the children at The Rich Center for Autism, located on the Y.S.U. campus. The other 20 percent goes to the Knights of Columbus State Council to be used for projects like Special Olympics and other projects that benefit children with developmental disabilities. All the money goes to help the children. The group will be presenting a check to the children at The Rich Center this fall.
Early release day on May 10 cancelled
At a regularly scheduled board meeting on March 15, the Austintown Board of Education approved the resolution to revise the 2016-2017 school calendar to reflect that May 10 will be a full student day and not an early release day. The early release days are used for administration and staff to engage in professional development, but due to students attending Camp Fitch the May early release day has been cancelled. Professional development planned is still set to take place and will be worked into school hours.
Knitting Guild meeting to be April 11
The Western Reserve Knitting Guild will meet on April 11 at 7 p.m. at the Rotary Community Building in Fair Park in Canfield. A brief program on Knitting Slang will be presented and members are encouraged to bring and show their knitted Herringbone Stitch pillows. ABWA meeting to be April 11
The Mill Creek Chapter of American Business Women’s Association will meet on April 11 at 6:30 p.m. at A La Cart in Canfield. Dinner will be southern baked chicken, roast beef, potato au gratin, peas and carrots, salad, Jello, cole slaw and dessert. The cost is $18. The speaker for the evening will be Chief Don Hutchinson of the Cardinal Fire Department, to speak on the drug problem in Ohio.
Smart money picture bingo
Celebrate Smart Money Week at the Austintown library on April 29 at 11 a.m. with fun and prizes for the whole family. Picture Bingo for all ages. Each child will receive a piggy bank. Children must be accompanied by an adult to this half-hour program. This is for the family.
Playtime at your library
Prepare for kindergarten through play at the Austintown library on April 10 at 6:30 p.m. You’ll read a story and have fun with developmentally appropriate games and activities that you can do with your child to help them get ready for Kindergarten. Join the Austintown library every Wednesday in April at 10 a.m. for developmentally appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finger plays and other activities that will help your child (ages 2-3) become a successful reader.

Open enrollment for 2017-2018
The Austintown Local Schools is now accepting enrollment for the 2017-2018 school year. The district is currently taking students in grades kindergarten through eighth-grade, based on current class size availability. Although grades 9-12 are closed, students are still able to apply for special programs, such as Falcon Pride Online and STEM. IHM Run Festival to be June 8
This is the annual 5K run that gets the local community festival off to a great running start. The date is set for June 8. The start time is 7 p.m. Runners, be sure to mark your calendar now so you don’t miss out on one of the longest standing 5K runs in the area. For a $10 entry fee, runners can run through local neighborhood roads and finish near the festival grounds. All runners must be registered to participate. Online registration is available at runsignup.com/race/oh/austintown/ihmfestival5k. Race day registration will start at 5 p.m. in front of the education building at 4490 Norquest Blvd. in Austintown. Easter egg hunt
There will be an indoor Easter Egg Hunt on April 8 at 11 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, located at 2305 S. Canfield-Niles Road in Austintown. There will be candy, crafts, a gift bag of gospel eggs and a video presentation. It is open to all kids in the community between the ages of 2 and 12.

GA to meet twice this week
Gamblers Anonymous, a 12-Step fellowship of compulsive gamblers who want to recover from their gambling addictions, will meet twice this week in the Youngstown-Warren area. A GA meeting is offered every Friday at Westminster Church, located at 119 Stadium Drive in Boardman, and another is offered every Sunday at Christ Church Presbyterian, located at 3425 Hopkins Road in Youngstown (in Cornersburg). Both meetings begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. and last about 1-1/2 hours. Those who believe gambling has affected any part of their lives are urged to attend. Pink Ribbon Golf Classic to be July 17
The annual Pink Ribbon Golf Classic will take place at Avalon Lakes Golf and Country Club on July 17. All proceeds from this event will go directly to the American Cancer Society.
