YOUNGSTOWN
U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown of Cleveland, D-Ohio, and Youngstown State University President Jim Tressel on Tuesday discussed the Veterans Priority Enrollment Act of 2017 and the Yellow Ribbon Improvement Act of 2017, bipartisan legislation, which will ensure veterans and their families receive full education benefits.
Tressel credited Harry Meshel, a former member of the Youngstown State University Board of Trustees, for the start of many veterans’ programs.
“As a veteran himself, Harry Meshel was a catalyst person that kind of held our feet to the fire to make sure we established things on our campus to ensure our veterans have everything they need to be successful to show our appreciation for their service,” he said.

At least four people are suspected of stealing $850 worth of merchandise from the Walmart at 6001 Mahoning Ave. on Tuesday.

The suspects left the cart at the front of the store near the self checkout, got into their car and left.
A third suspect left the second car, walked directly to the shopping cart and pushed it out of the store, purportedly without paying for the merchandise. He placed the stolen items in the back seat of the second car, which was driven by a fourth suspect.
