The Youngstown Office of Minority Health with the city’s health district kicks off its 2017 Minority Health Month Celebration with its free Citywide Baby Shower & Health Fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Arlington Heights Recreation Center, 801 Otis St.
The Stroller Stroll begins at 11:30 a.m. Health screenings, including body mass indexing and bone density, will be provided by medical personnel from Mercy Health. The health district will provide blood-pressure screenings.
Arraigned in robbery
POLAND
Two of the people arrested involving a robbery at a township Burger King were arraigned Wednesday.
Jonathon Daviduk, 20, was arraigned in Struthers Municipal Court on charges of aggravated robbery and kidnapping. He is in the Mahoning County jail on bond of $40,000.
Jeremy Britton, 17, was arraigned in Mahoning County Juvenile Court on two counts of aggravated robbery with gun specifications. He is in the Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center.
Two other people were arrested in connection to the Monday incident. Dominic DePaul, 18, is charged with aggravated robbery and kidnapping. Angelle Schneider, 20, is charged with obstructing official business and is out on bond. DePaul remains in the county jail.
Community Night
CAMPBELL
Campbell elementary and middle-school students are invited, with their families, to attend a Community Night from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the cafeteria at the K-7 school, 2002 Community Circle.
The evening will feature health and wellness, promoting programs about staying active and fit, as well as summer programs and activities for the students.
Representatives will be on hand to share information regarding adolescent and summer activities. Scrappy, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers’ mascot, and Youngstown State University’s Pete the Penguin also will attend.
The Community Night will end with a dodgeball tournament. Refreshments will be provided.
Litter cleanup event
CORTLAND
The Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District begins its 29th Great American Cleanup litter cleanup from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Mosquito Lake State Park, 1439 state Route 305. Volunteers should check in at the state park office to receive supplies, such as gloves, safety vests, litter grabbers and trash bags.
Destiny’s Law OK’d by Senate, goes to House

Individuals who permanently disable youngsters would face increased mandatory prison sentences, under legislation passed by the Ohio Senate.
Senate Bill 20 passed on a vote of 30-3 Wednesday and heads to the Ohio House for further consideration.
The legislation is titled Destiny’s Law, in honor of a youngster from Clark County whose skull was fractured after her mother’s boyfriend violently shook her and threw her against a wall.
SB 20 would require additional prison terms of three to eight years if offenders are convicted of endangering or felonious assault of children, if the victims suffer permanent disabling harm.
Official’s death mourned
POLAND
Village council mourned the death of Councilman Bob Limmer on Tuesday as the question arose of who will replace him, and his role on several committees.
Mayor Tim Sicafuse said officials plan to wait past the 30 days of a vacancy to choose a replacement. People interested must be residents of the village for at least a year to apply.
