Roman Polanski’s bid to end sex abuse case rejected by judge

LOS ANGELES

A Los Angeles judge has rejected Roman Polanski’s bid to end his long-running underage sex abuse case without the fugitive director appearing in court.

Superior Court Judge Scott M. Gordon denied several requests to resolve the case, including sentencing that involved no more prison time.

Gordon refused to address how Polanski would be sentenced if he returned to the U.S. after 40 years abroad. The ruling says many of Polanski’s requests have already been denied by other courts.

Polanski pleaded guilty to unlawful sex with a 13-year-old girl in 1977 and fled on the eve of sentencing after he says the judge reneged on a promise about how he would be sentenced.

‘Angel Baby’ singer Hamlin dead at 71

PHOENIX

Rosie Hamlin, the singer of the 1960s hit “Angel Baby,” a song covered by everyone from John Lennon to Linda Ronstadt, has died.

The 71-year-old lead singer of Rosie and the Originals died in her sleep March 30, according to a post by her daughter on the late performer’s website.

Hamlin was born Rosalie Hamlin on July 21, 1945, in Oregon.

Hamlin was 14 years old when she penned “Angel Baby,” a song that Lennon would later call one of his all-time favorites.

Hamlin’s daughter said the singer hadn’t performed in a while due to concerns for her health.
