Hubbard Council denies zoning change near Westview Avenue

HUBBARD

City council voted 7-0 Monday to deny a zone change near Westview Avenue.

The planning and zoning commission had recommended that city council block the reclassification of the parcel from residential to public facility.

Councilman Michael Toda said he was unsure why the change had been requested and was especially opposed to the possibility of the land being used for a commercial building.

“We don’t know what it would be, so it’s almost like giving a blank check, in a way,” he said. “If a business wants to come in, they can use one of the empty buildings in the city. I don’t think we should be building more when we already have buildings sitting vacant.”

Westview resident Darla Fitzsimmons was pleased with council’s decision. She had been concerned about increased traffic to the residential area.
