Elderly couple on wrong flight; end up in NY instead of Michigan

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.

A 96-year-old woman and an 89-year-old man were wheeled to the wrong gate at a South Florida airport and ended up on a flight to upstate New York instead of Michigan.

Helen Wheeker and her husband, George Nobel, ended up in Ogdensburg, N.Y., instead of Grand Rapids, Mich., after being put on the wrong Allegiant Air flight at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

South Florida television station WPLG reported that Allegiant Air spokeswoman Hilarie Grey blamed a malfunctioning boarding-pass scanner for not catching the mix-up.

Grey apologized for the mistake and said the couple has been given a full refund.

The couple flew back to Fort Lauderdale and tried again to fly to Michigan on Saturday.

Feathers fly as pillow war overtakes downtown LA

LOS ANGELES

The feathers were flying in downtown Los Angeles.

Hundreds of people traded soft blows in LA’s Pershing Square in a giant pillow fight that dwarfed even the biggest slumber party slugfests.

Children, teens, adults and seniors swung pillows at one another for over an hour Saturday. The annual event takes place to celebrate International Pillow Fight Day.

Many wore pajamas; some wore masks and goggles.

By the time it was over, the ground was so covered with feathers it looked like it had snowed on a sunny April afternoon.

101-year-old resident attends borough’s centennial party

DUPONT, Pa.

A 101-year-old woman was on hand to celebrate the centennial of the Pennsylvania borough where she has always lived.

Margaret Milewski lived in what’s now Dupont – about 10 miles southwest of Scranton – since before it was officially incorporated. She received a key to the borough at the celebration at the local Veterans of Foreign Wars post.

Milewski said, “I guess they had to honor somebody, and they figured they couldn’t find anybody older.”

Bob Price of the Dupont Progress Committee said it was amazing to find someone who has lived in the borough for its entire history. Its population is about 2,700.
