Sara Price entered Howland hoping to make a name for herself. After four years there, it’s all over the record books.
It sits at the top of the all-time leading-scorer list at just under 2,000 points.
“It is a really big accomplishment,” Price said. “I’ve been wanting to do that since I was in eighth grade. I always watched the older girls. I’m incredibly proud of myself. I’m shocked and I still can’t believe that I’ve accomplished what I have.”
She even surpassed her mom during her sophomore year.
“She was upset, but it happens. She was proud of me,” said Price.
Price also set the single-game scoring record (36) as a sophomore, but had the chance to pass it during her junior season.
“It was against Harding. I had 36 points,” Price said. “The single-game scoring record was 38 and my coach pulled me out and wouldn’t let me finish the record. I was so upset about it, but looking at the bigger picture, it was the right thing to do.”
She averaged 21 points and led the Tigers to a district semifinal game this year.
She received several accolades throughout her four years as a Tiger, including the only Mahoning Valley girls basketball player named first-team All-Ohio after her senior season.
She was also named first team Inland Northeast. She earned both of those her final two seasons. Price was named Trumbull County Player of the Year.
She holds the record of career starts (95), field goals made in a season (231), most points in a season (563) and average points per game (18.5).
Price will continue her basketball career at Ball State University and study early childhood education.
