Boardman man charged with injuring woman’s hip in purse snatching in Warren

WARREN

A Boardman man is in the Trumbull County jail in lieu of $450,000 bond after he is accused of stealing a woman’s purse by knocking her to the ground outside of the Family Dollar on Elm Road Thursday night.

The victim, 73, of Bonnie Brae Avenue Northeast, suffered a broken hip, but police said they didn’t know yet if she also had other injuries.

Police said the woman was near her car in the parking lot when Hubbard came up and grabbed her purse, knocking her down and dragging her until she let go of it.

Police captured Kenneth L. Hubbard, 36, of Mumford Drive in Boardman running through a back yard a short time later a few blocks away.

He was in a fetal position trying to hide in a back yard on Scott Street when officers found him, a police report says.

Hubbard had cash on him but not the woman’s purse, but he eventually told officers where to find it, saying he “wanted the lady to get her pills back.” Officers found the purse under the rear porch of an abandoned Olive Street home and returned it to her. Everything was inside except $200 in cash.

A not-guilty plea to an aggravated robbery charge was entered for Hubbard on Friday in Warren Municipal Court. If convicted, Hubbard could get 11 years in prison.

Hubbard was sentenced to 18 months in prison in October 2013 for a probation violation relating to a 2011 robbery conviction in Mahoning County.
