Juvenile court continues hearings in two cases

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

Attorneys on Friday moved a hearing to May to determine if a 14-year-old charged with attempted murder should be tried as an adult.

The hearing for Jhamiere Clarke will take place in Mahoning County Juvenile Court at 2 p.m. May 17.

Clarke is charged with attempted murder and aggravated robbery for the Feb. 6 attack on Ellen Zban, 57, who was robbed and shot in the eye and shoulder in the driveway of her Powersdale Avenue.

Zban is recovering from her injuries but did not travel to court Friday on her own. She said she wants to thank everyone for their support.

Also Friday, a preliminary hearing took place for Damondtreas Hubbert, 15, who is charged with aggravated murder for the Feb. 2 shooting death of Clevael Workman on Oxford Street on the North Side. Hubbert was taken into custody and is being held in detention, as is Clarke. Magistrate Carla Baldwin denied a request by Hubbert’s attorney that he be released on house arrest.

Another hearing for Hubbert will be scheduled because of some additional evidence that needs to be handed over to the defense that was not available Friday.
