The Curbstone Coaches will welcome newly hired Youngstown State University Men’s Basketball coach Jarrod Calhoun with a dinner on April 27th at 6:30 p.m. at the Avion Banquet Center.
The cost of the buffet dinner per person will be $11 and reservations are not needed. The public is encouraged to attend.
Marietta’s Prologo is top player again

Former Canfield softball player Ali Prologo has earned Marietta College Player of the Week for the second straight week.
The junior is on an eight-game hitting streak. She had five multiple-hit games for the Pioneers, who went 3-3 last week.
Prologo went 6-for-7 with 2 RBI’s in Marietta’s doubleheader at Bethany College. She also went 3-for-6 with a double in two games at Ohio Northern and 4-for-8 with a double against Kenyon. Prologo has a .619 batting average on the week.
She leads the team with an overall .397 batting average and on-base percentage at .461. She is second in the Ohio Athletic Conference with 27 base hits.

Officials at the Henry Stambaugh Municipal Golf Course have announced that the course is scheduled to open for the season today.
Federal charges for Chief Wahoo activist

Federal prosecutors have charged an Ohio man accused of embezzling more than $180,000 in federal grants intended to help Native Americans.
Cleveland.com reports there’s a twist: Defendant Craig McGuire was a consultant to a Native American man who’s been among the leading opponents of the Cleveland Indians baseball team using the divisive Chief Wahoo logo.
In court documents, authorities allege an embezzlement conspiracy between McGuire and the director of a Cleveland-area nonprofit group that supports Native American causes. The director hasn’t been charged.
McGuire is charged with theft of government funds and with conspiracy to commit theft concerning programs receiving federal funds.
Baltimore signs son of Cal Ripken Jr.

The Baltimore Orioles have signed the son of Cal Ripken Jr. to a minor league contract.
First baseman Ryan Ripken signed with the Class A Aberdeen IronBirds, the team announced Friday on Twitter.
The 23-year-old Ripken was selected by the Washington Nationals in the 15th round of the 2014 Major League draft. He batted .205 over three seasons, hitting three home runs in 145 games.
He will participate in extended spring training before the IronBirds open play in the New York-Penn League in June.
Cal Ripken Jr. grew up in Aberdeen and played with the Orioles from 1981-2001. He set a major league record by playing in 2,632 consecutive games and was a first-ballot entrant into the Hall of Fame. Ripken’s brother.
U.S. women’s soccer calls up 16-year-old

The U.S. women’s national team has called up 16-year-old Sophia Smith as an injury replacement on Jill Ellis’ roster.
Smith was set to join the team Friday ahead of two upcoming exhibition matches against Russia on April 6 and 9, both in Texas. A high school junior from Windsor, Colorado, Smith left the Americans’ Under-23 squad in Portland, Oregon.
The Americans are down midfielders Morgan Brian (knee), Lindsey Horan (hip) and Tobin Heath (back), all forced to pull out of the training camp.
Smith was recently in Europe for stints with both the US U-18 and U-20 teams, scoring five goals in three games for the U-18 group in England to earn a spot on the U-20 team.
