Youngstown CityScape seeks matching donations for 9-hole golf course
Staff report
YOUNGSTOWN
Youngstown CityScape is seeking matching donations for the installation of a professional nine-hole disc golf course in Wick Park.
Disc golf is similar to traditional golf with the goal being to complete each hole in the fewest strokes. Instead of a ball and clubs, however, players use a specialized golf disc similar to a Frisbee.
Trees, shrubs and terrain changes provide challenging obstacles for the golfer.
To make a donation online, go to GoFundMe.com/WickParkDiscGolfCourse or contact Youngstown CityScape by phone at 330-742-4040 or by email at info@youngstowncityscape.com.
The city has contributed $2,500 toward the project, and Youngstown CityScape is seeking to match that amount.
Those who contribute $500 or more will be listed as a sponsor on the permanent course signage.
Those who contribute any amount will be invited to a course launch party at Wick Park pavilion which will include food, entertainment and free disc golf lessons.
All donations are tax deductible.
There are more than 200 courses throughout Ohio, but none in Youngstown.
Wick Park is the most-used park in the city and has received more than $700,000 worth of capital improvements since 2008, according to CityScape.
