‘Traficant’ film to be screened

YOUNGSTOWN

The documentary film “Traficant: The Congressman of Crimetown,” by Valley filmmaker Eric Murphy, will be screened at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday and noon and 3 p.m. Sunday at the Youngstown Playhouse, off Glenwood Avenue. Tickets are $10 at the box office.

Murphy – who wrote, directed and produced the film – will be in attendance for post-screening question- and-answer sessions. The feature-length film details the political life of colorful and controversial U.S. Rep Jim Traficant, who represented the Mahoning Valley. Traficant died in 2014.

School drumlines will perform

BOARDMAN

The Boardman High School band drumline will present the third annual Boardman Drum Night at 7 p.m. Monday at Boardman High School gymnasium, Glenwood Avenue. Drum sections representing six area high schools – Austintown Fitch, Campbell Memorial, Champion, Howland, Poland and Boardman – will perform drum cadences and percussion features. At the conclusion, all six drumlines will combine in a “drum jam.” Admission is $2 ($1 for students; free for senior citizens).

Jackson baby bump

Months after saying she was planning a family, Janet Jackson has been spotted sporting an apparent baby bump. The 50-year-old singer announced in April that she was postponing her tour because she is planning a family with husband Wissam Al Mana, saying she was on “doctor’s orders” to rest.
