Former President Bill Clinton will visit the Mahoning Valley next week to campaign for his wife, Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

The candidate’s campaign announced that the former president would be in the area as part of a Tuesday-Wednesday bus tour through eastern Ohio.

“Clinton will lay out the high stakes of November’s election for Ohio’s working families and talk with Ohioans about Hillary Clinton’s plans to build an economy that works for everyone, not just those at the top,” a campaign email stated Thursday.

Clinton has scheduled public events on the two days in Athens, Jefferson and Stark counties. The email said he also will stop in the Mahoning Valley but didn’t give specifics. Local Democrats expect Clinton to visit Wednesday.

The tour occurs one week before the state’s Oct. 11 voter registration deadline with early voting beginning a day later.

Bill Clinton has visited the Valley several times over the years, though his last stop was a private fundraiser Nov. 19, 2015, at the Canfield residence of Bruce and Rori Zoldan for his wife.

His last public appearance in the area was an Oct. 29, 2012, rally for President Barack Obama at the Covelli Centre in downtown Youngstown.

Meanwhile, the campaign also announced Thursday that Hillary Clinton would visit Ohio on Monday, though it didn’t disclose the location.

It would be her first visit to Ohio since a Sept. 5 Labor Day rally in Cleveland.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, whose campaign has criticized Clinton for not being in Ohio, has been in the Buckeye State five days this month at nine events including a Sept. 5 stop at the Canfield Fair.

Polls show a statistical dead heat between Clinton and Trump in Ohio, a key battleground state in the presidential election.
