SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR The Youngstown Rotary Club awarded a presidential Paul Harris Fellowship to Ashley Orr, Youngstown State University’s first Rhodes Scholar. Rotary President Bill Lawson, left, presented the award to Orr during the club’s weekly meeting Aug. 31. The award is given to Rotarians who have contributed or have had contributions made in their name of at least $1,000 to the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. Rotarians Scott Schulick and John Slanina made the contributions in Orr’s name for her long-time association with the Rotary. Orr spoke to the Rotary about her path to the Rhodes Scholarship and her leadership and volunteer experiences while she was a YSU student. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and economics in May and recently completed an internship with The Rocky Ridge Neighborhood Association in Youngstown. The Paul Harris Fellowship was established in 1957 to show appreciation for substantial contributions to the Rotary Foundation. The Rotary Club of Youngstown is part of Rotary International.
