BOARDMAN
The WorldStrides OnStage program invited the Boardman Spartan Marching Band to perform at the McDonald’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in Chicago.
Band director Thomas M. Ruggieri and the 125-member band will travel to Chicago to march down the city’s State Street and past the Christmas tree in Daley Center Plaza.
The invitation to the parade “is an honor reserved only for the most talented student performers from across the nation,” according to a news release.
The band has performed in the parade nearly every four years since the 1970s, and it has become a true tradition for the band.
Facing drug charges
AUSTINTOWN
Officers arrested a man outside a Mahoning Avenue gas station Monday night on a charge of manufacturing methamphetamine.
According to the report, officers approached Christopher Roch, 41, of Aldrich Road, in Get-Go’s parking lot, 5163 Mahoning Ave., in the suspected drug manufacture around 11:30 p.m.
Roch told officers he had methamphetamine inside his vehicle in a pill bottle, and he stole his brothers driver’s license and firearm to procure methamphetamine ingredients, reports said.
Roch was charged with illegal possession of drug- manufacturing chemicals, illegal manufacture of drugs and possession of drugs and advised of his court date at 9 a.m. Thursday at Mahoning County Area Court.
Police said other charges may be pending.
Man assaulted
WARREN
A man, 19, of Warren suffered a broken eye socket, broken nose and broken jaw in an assault by about 10 people on Dickey Avenue Northwest at 11 p.m. Monday.
The man said he was visiting friends when he was “jumped” by about 10 people. He tried to flee but could not, police said. He was struck multiple times, then kicked in the face extremely hard multiple times, he said.
He was treated at ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital.
Bridge repair work
EAST LIVERPOOL
Work will begin Monday to repair the state Route 30 bridge over state Route 7, the Ohio Department of Transportation announced today.
A 12-foot lane will be maintained in each direction on state Route 30 and state Route 7. All the ramps and the state Route 267 connector also will remain open during work.
ODOT’s contractor for this $170,000 project is the Rehulin Co. from Sharon Center, and the completion date is mid-November.
Bullet holes in home
WARREN
Police found 13 shell casings and two bullets near a home that had been shot up in the 2100 block of Jackson Street Southwest at 10:30 p.m. Monday.
No one was home when police arrived, but they found bullet holes in the front and side of the house and a front screen door with the glass shot out. Police contacted the resident, who arrived at the home and said she didn’t know who would have done it.
