New Panda Express to open Saturday

BOARDMAN

The grand opening of a Panda Express restaurant in the township is set for Saturday, the company has announced.

The Boardman restaurant is located at 935 Windham Court, across from Primanti Bros. on South Avenue.

The restaurant will donate 20 percent of opening-day proceeds to Making Kids Count, a Boardman-based nonprofit organization dedicated to serving children in need.

The company also announced that it will hire at least 20 employees to staff the new location. Additional information about job opportunities is available at pandacareers.com.

Panda Express is a Chinese-food chain that operates 1,900 locations around the world. Andrew and Peggy Cherng started it in California in 1983.

Verizon records sold

ATLANTA

A former Verizon Wireless technician is accused of using the company’s computers to obtain customers’ private call records — plus data showing where customers’ phones were — and then selling them to an unnamed private investigator, federal prosecutors said.

Daniel Eugene Traeger, who worked in Alabama, sold the confidential information for more than four years, from 2009 to 2014, authorities said.

The court records don’t say how many customer records were sold, or how they may have been used.

Shortly after the charges were filed last week, Traeger pleaded guilty to a felony count of unauthorized access to a protected computer as part of a plea deal.

Gas mileage to fall

DETROIT

Highway gas mileage estimates for about one-third of all new vehicles sold in the U.S. will fall by one mile per gallon because the government has changed the way it calculates the numbers on the window sticker.

The change, which begins with the 2017 model year, comes largely because people are loading up cars with more options such as heated seats that use electricity and create drag on engines.

Ohio gas prices fall

COLUMBUS

Gas prices in Ohio continue to fall, while the average price in the state also remains below the national average.

The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Ohio was $2.08 in Monday’s survey from auto club AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and WEX Inc. That’s down from $2.17 cents a week ago and 13 cents below the current national average. The average price in Ohio at this time last month was $2.22.

European economy

FRANKFURT, Germany

The president of the European Central Bank says both markets and the economy have been “resilient” in the wake of Britain’s vote to leave the European Union.

But Mario Draghi cautioned members of the European Parliament in Brussels on Monday that the long-term effects of the breakup “will be much more difficult to foresee.”

Staff and wire reports

Draghi says much will depend on how long it takes Britain to negotiate a new relationship with the bloc that covers future trade conditions and other matters.

He added that “the longer the uncertainty about the outcome lasts, the more relevant the consequences will be.”
