The Alzheimer’s Association Greater East Ohio Area Chapter will host its annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Oct. 8 at the Watson and Tressel Training Site at Youngstown State University, 651 Elm St.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., and the opening ceremony will begin at 9:30. Registration is free and open to the public.

Participants are encouraged to seek donations from relatives and friends. Those unable to attend the walk may donate directly to the association. To register a team contact Helen Paes at hpaes@alz.org or 330-533-3300. Information also is available at www.alz.org/walk.

This year the event will honor the Gilmartin-Ragozine family. Susan Gilmartin Ragozine, team captain, lost her father to Alzheimer’s disease. The family has been among the top three fundraising family teams for the last six years.

The walk is the largest event worldwide for raising money and awareness for the Alzheimer’s association, whose mission is to provide care and support for those affected by the disease, to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health and to eliminate Alzheimer’s through research advancement. More than five million Americans live with the disease, including more than 7,200 in Mahoning County. For information, call 800-272-3900 or visit www.alz.org/akroncantonyoungstown.
