Garden Forum shares floral entry results

CANFIELD

The Garden Forum of the Greater Youngstown Area Inc. has announced the floral entry results from the 2016 Canfield Fair.

There were a total of 110 participants Aug. 30 with 1,005 entries and 84 participants Sept. 3 with 1,048 entries. There were 51 new participants.

Best of Show winners Aug. 30 were:

Sheila Bowman, design

Cheryl Prior, cacti

Hugh Earnhart, zinnia

Joyce Habeger, dahlia

Alyssa Lynch, fushia hanging basket

Keith Martig, hosta

Best of show winners Sept. 3 were:

Cindy Salerno, petunia

Bowman, dahlia and design

W. John Powell, hosta

The annual door-decorating competition is sponsored by the forum. The clubs entering that competition were Holborn Herb Growers with the Rabbit Family, Mahoning Valley Dahlia Society with the Bark Family and St. Michael Garden Guild with the Flip Flop Family.

Entries for the best door were judged by the public. A total of 767 votes were cast in the competition, and the winner, with 351 votes, was Holborn Herb Growers.

The professional arrangement competition winner was Edward’s Florist with a full display of a pig and pumpkin made of flowers, a ferris wheel made from small clay pots, a rooster, popcorn, tickets and a candied apple.

Other participants were Sweet Arrangements, Sitler’s Flower Loft of Salem, Nemenz IGA, Something Unique and Lemon Tree.
