Newton Falls cyclist struck and killed

NEWTON FALLS

A Newton Falls man was killed Sunday in a crash between a bicycle and an SUV on Holcomb Newton Falls Road.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the bicycle and SUV were traveling eastbound on Holcomb Newton Falls Road shortly before 8 a.m. when the SUV struck the rear of the bicycle.

The bicyclist, Michael Scott Hunyady, 19, of Newton Falls was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV, Don S. Bryant, 53, of Newton Falls was not injured.

Alcohol use was not a factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

Program on birds set Tuesday night

CANFIELD

The Audubon Society/Mahoning Valley invites the public to a program titled “Eastern Bluebirds and House Sparrows” at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Canfield public library. Stacy Pavlik, a teacher at Austintown Fitch High School, will discuss the impact that house sparrows have on the eastern bluebird’s reproductive success. Cleanup set through Oct. 9 at cemetery

GIRARD

Fall cleanup at the Girard City Cemetery has been scheduled through Oct. 9. Until then, people may pull flowers and clean grave sites.

After Oct. 9, employees will be removing any plants on graves in preparation for upcoming holiday wreaths.
