Chargers’ Bosa to miss third straight game

SAN DIEGO

Chargers rookie defensive end Joey Bosa has been ruled out of his third straight game due to a hamstring injury.

The Chargers (1-1) play at Indianapolis (0-2) on Sunday.

Bosa practiced only on a limited basis this week. The former Ohio State star missed all of training camp due to a nasty contract dispute, and then hurt a hamstring.

Star tight end Antonio Gates is listed as doubtful with a hamstring injury. He didn’t practice all week.

Bucs release Jenkins after arrest on DUI

TAMPA, Fla.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers waived tight end Austin-Seferian Jenkins on Friday, hours after the third-year pro was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence.

The Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release that Seferian-Jenkins, a second-round draft pick out of the University of Washington in 2014, was driving between 75 and 80 mph on Interstate 275 when the football player’s vehicle cut in front in front of a trooper’s cruiser and began weaving back and forth.

Sgt. Steve Gaskins said Seferian-Jenkins was charged with DUI and violation of an ignition interlock device restriction from an arrest in Washington in 2013. The player refused a breath test at the Hillsborough County Jail.

“We are very disappointed in today’s news,” Bucs general manager Jason Licht said in a statement. “After careful consideration, we felt this was the right decision at this time.”

Seferian-Jenkins had three receptions for 44 yards and one touchdown in two games this season. He started 12 of 16 games he appeared in the previous two years and has 45 career receptions for 603 yards and seven TDs.

The Bucs promoted tight end Alan Cross from the practice squad to fill the roster opening.

Thumb injury sidelines Sky’s Delle Donne

ROSEMONT, Ill.

Sky star Elena Delle Donne will miss Chicago’s second-round playoff game against the Atlanta Dream because of a right thumb injury.

The 2015 WNBA MVP, Delle Donne was injured Sept. 7 against Washington and had surgery six days later. She is averaging 21.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.

The Sky still clinched the No. 4 seed and a first-round bye without her. They host Atlanta on Sunday.

Villa’s two goals power NYCFC into playoffs

NEW YORK

Jefferson Mena and David Villa scored a minute apart before the game was 10 minutes old and New York City FC clinched a playoff berth with a 4-1 victory over the Chicago Fire on Friday night.

Khiry Shelton assisted on both goals as NYCFC (13-9-9) ran its home unbeaten streak to seven games.

Mena got his first goal for NYCFC in the 8th minute on a play that started off a corner kick before Ronald Matarrita sent a long ball toward the right post that Shelton headed out front for Mena to punch it in. Moments later Shelton sent a short pass to his left and Villa dribbled inside the 18 before finding the bottom right corner.

A header by Luis Solignac for his second goal got the Fire (6-14-9) on the board in the 35th minute. New York got that back in the 44th minute Steven Mendoza, from the top of the arc, left-footed a rocket just under the cross bar for his fourth goal. Villa assisted on that goal and iced it with his 19th goal in the 83rd minute.

The Beaver Creek Sportsman Club Gun Show is set for Oct. 15-16.
