The Poland Junior Women’s Club hosted its annual Trash and Treasure sale on Sept. 10 at the Prince of Peace Church in Poland.

PJWC is an offshoot of the Poland Women’s Club and was established in 1980 and coordinates several events to bring community members together. The Trash and Treasure is an annual fundraiser that has been occurring for at least 15 years. The goal is to raise around $1,000 that will create a $500 scholarship for two Poland Seminary High School seniors.

All of the items for sale are donated by the members of the PJWC. The members of the PJWC also made different baked goods for the bake sale. Anyone is welcomed to attend the sale and help raise money for the scholarships and to help fund other events put on by the PWJC throughout the year.

“Nothing that we do costs money for people, it’s all free. Once in awhile we’ll have another fundraiser to try and raise more money, but typically this is the big one that we have,” said Laurie LaPlante, the PJWC President.

The turnout for the Trash and Treasure sale is usually pretty high, dependant on the weather. The PJWC used to host the sale in the Spring, but with the weather and busy schedules, the club decided to move the sale to September.

“It’s mainly a community betterment organization. We try and do things for the community,” said LaPlante.

PJWC is always welcoming new members. Information about the group can be found on its website, www.PJWC.org, and the Poland Junior Women’s Club Facebook page.
